A responsible AI framework is the organizational structure — principles, policies, processes, and accountability mechanisms — that guides how your organization develops, deploys, and monitors AI systems. It should be practical, not aspirational.
Core Principles
Every responsible AI framework starts with a set of principles that reflect your organization's values and risk tolerance. The specific principles will vary, but these are consistently adopted by leading organizations:
Transparency
Users and stakeholders know when they are interacting with AI, understand how AI-driven decisions are made, and can access explanations of outcomes that affect them. This includes disclosing AI usage in customer-facing contexts and documenting AI systems internally.
Fairness & Non-Discrimination
AI systems are tested for bias across protected categories (race, gender, age, disability). Disparate impact is measured and mitigated before deployment. Regular bias audits ensure fairness doesn't degrade over time as data distributions shift.
Privacy & Data Protection

Accountability

Internal AI Usage Policies

Risk-Proportionate Governance
Not every AI application needs the same level of governance. A spam filter and a medical diagnostic tool have vastly different risk profiles. Scale your governance to match:
